By popular request (by a veritable onslaught), here is a food haul video for you showing how I go about buying bulk produce even in the winter time and getting it to my house without a car! Also why I don’t talk about what I eat too often.
I’ve had some requests to do a food haul so I figured…why not? I try my best to make content that I believe is engaging and important on an ethical, education level, but also keep in mind the element of entertainment. Plus, it’s always good to listen to one’s audience! So, some of you may wonder how do you get a lot of produce, especially in the winter and now (for me), without a car? So I thought I’d show you!
This video post is really dependent on the video, so be sure to check that out. But here are some of the key elements of what I say:
I usually pick up an order of bulk produce at my local co-op twice a week. They have all kinds of great organics and a lot of them are local. I recently got a whole order of mango oranges which are these incredibly delicious little things. With any co-op and a lot of chain stores even, you can order in bulk through the produce department at a discount.
In the video, I show you what I currently have in stock at home and talk about how a lot of people always want to know what kind of vegan I am and what I eat. I have the what i eat in a day video and sometimes for most of the year I’ll be a raw vegan. When I filmed that video, it had been eight months since I’d cooked anything. But I am not opposed to cooking. I’m not really dogmatic about it. The reason I hesitate to show you guys what I eat a lot on my channel and website is because my channel and website are about veganism in general, about the ethics of veganism.
Yes, health is important. I do like to highlight health. You can be very healthy as a vegan. You can improve your health, you can cure diseases, all of those things. That’s important. The environment’s important. Going vegan’s the greatest thing you can do for the environment. That’s important. There’s a lot of reasons to go vegan that are equally important. I never want to say that ethics is the only thing.
Whatever reason you go vegan is a right reason and a good reason as long as it keeps you vegan. [tweet this]
Back to my original point. The reason I don’t show what I eat very often is because I want veganism to be approachable for everybody and if you see me just eating raw produce and mono meals all the time (which is what I like), you might conclude that vegans only eat rabbit foods or that you have to just eat a giant bowl of oranges in the morning or a mountain of lettuce in the evening.
That’s not realistic for a lot of people and it something that a lot of people don’t like. It doesn’t really seem that appetizing. What I want everyone to know is that you can eat vegan in any way that works for you. You can eat exactly what you’re eating now and just substitute the vegan options. It doesn’t need to be an earth-shattering revelation in your diet. So, I just wanna make that clear. [tweet this]
You can be a junk food vegan. You can eat Oreos and Sweet Chili Doritos all day. Whatever works for you. Honestly. You don’t have to eat the way I eat. There’s a way of veganism that works for anyone. You just have to find yours. [tweet this]
So be sure to check out the video to see my haul for the day and what I had in stock at home! And let me know what you have in stock in the comments below!
