How long could you go without talking? Well, James Aspey of Voiceless 365 went one year without any verbal communication to bring attention to the billions of voiceless victims of the animal products industry.
How long could you go without talking? Without any verbal communication at all? One hour? Two? A day? A week? A month? How about 365 days of complete silence? That’s exactly what James Aspey did. And he did it for the animals. I had the pleasure of interviewing James and then being interviewed by him as well!
Check out the video above for my full interview with James, but here are a few select nuggets:
On being vegan to stop animal cruelty:
“The only rational response if you’re against animal cruelty is to be vegan. Otherwise, you’re just against a little bit of cruelty over here, you’re against that cruelty, but not that one, or you’re against cruelty to these animals but not those, and that doesn’t really make sense.” [tweet this]
On being voiceless:
“Just because someone’s voiceless shouldn’t mean that their life, their wants and desires and who they are shouldn’t [matter, and it] shouldn’t mean that they don’t matter.”
On eating meat and masculinity:
“Eating meat is manly? I was like, ‘what’s manly about doing this to vulnerable beings? That’s cowardly.'”
Definitely check out the full interview above for even more golden vegan nuggets. And check out my interview on James’ channel where I say some cool-ish stuff too! [tweet this cool-ish stuff] [or tweet this cool-ish stuff]
I’d love to hear your thoughts on his activism and the interview in the comments below!

Nice one Emily and James!
I’ve heard of James some time ago and thought that was a unique idea to stay silent for a year for the animals..any activity which brings awareness to our fellow friends on this Earth is valuable and thank you both for this ‘public service’, I’d say. It’s very much needed. And yes, James is a hot guy, which I hope will make more girls go vegan for him:)).
